The Lukovit Karst
The Vit River
The river that passes Aglen and shapes the pools, banks and canyon views around it.
The Vit is a river of northern Bulgaria and a right tributary of the Danube. At Aglen it enters the limestone and behaves quite unlike its lowland course: it runs through a canyon and makes tight meanders, which are linked to older tectonic faults underlying the area. This is the river that cut the valley and left the arches, pools and steep banks around it. Much of what is worth seeing near the village stands within a stone's throw of its bed.
