The Lukovit Karst Travel guideAs the village tells it the earliest written traces of the name are associated with the Ottoman tax registers of the Nikopol sanjak of the 15th–16th centuries.
As the village tells it the village land holds localities called “Selishteto” and “Staro selo”, where people lived closer to the caves and rocks before the village moved down to the river terraces.
